Viagra Works for Women! Or Not So Much... The good news is out about women and
Viagra! Perk up girls:
Viagra "Works for Women Too" (Top Health News) But, on second thought:
Viagra found not to help
women's desire much
(The San Francisco Examiner) That's a dour pronouncement coming from a city with a reputation as a
hedonistic haven. Maybe SF isn't the sex-positive paradise we thought it was. The article itself is clear on a few points. A small study
showed that Viagra counteracts the orgasm-killing effects antidepressants may have on women, but it
doesn't increase sexual desire. No surprise there; Viagra affects the sexual
performance of men, but doesn't increase their desire either. In addition, a lot
of the women reported side effects, especially headaches. Apparently, Viagra
giveth and Viagra taketh away. (btw, if you're having headaches on Viagra, one
thing to try is a lower dosage.) Wait, this just in...Viagra does improve sex drive for women on antidepressants:
Viagra May Boost Female Libido in Some Cases
(HealthDay News) Sounds promising, but don't get too excited. True, we have the study
reporting that women who took Viagra had "an improved ability to reach orgasm
and increased orgasm satisfaction." Everyone seems to agree on that much. Then a
few paragraphs later, an endocrinologist discusses antidepressants and libido.
At first glance, a reader might miss the fact that nowhere in this article does
it actually say that Viagra improves women's sexual drive. Nevertheless, if you
throw in a couple of fuzzy words like "may" and "some", you have enough leeway
to cobble together an eye-catching headline.
Sexual desire elusive for many women
(Chicago Sun) This article emphasizes the study's findings on the limits of
Viagra's benefits, as well as highlighting the prevalence of low sex
drive among women: Viagra “doesn’t have any effect on libido," Robert Taylor Seagraves, a psychiatry professor at Case Western University, told US News & World Report. "It doesn’t work for desire," echoed Lillian Arleque, 62, a Viagra user and the author of
'When Sex Isn’t Good,' quoted in
the Baltimore Sun. "When you take Viagra it increases blood flow to your genitals. It increases sensation." |
